Mission Statement

At the core of our mission is the belief that everyone deserves an equal opportunity for education, and we strive to create an environment across our region where diversity is embraced, and inclusion is the norm. Our organization serves as a hub for collaboration, information sharing, and advocacy, uniting stakeholders who are dedicated to breaking down barriers and promoting a more inclusive educational landscape.

At NWIPSEA, we envision a future where higher education is an inclusive and empowering experience for all. Our commitment lies in cultivating an environment that embraces diversity, equity, and accessibility, transforming the educational landscape into a place where everyone can thrive. Our vision encompasses four fundamental pillars, each focused on benefiting key stakeholders:

   Vision

Our vision is not just about inclusion; it's about creating a transformative experience that enriches the lives of educators, disability service providers, students, and families alike. Together, we can build a future where higher education truly reflects the diversity of our society, and every individual has the opportunity to succeed and contribute to a more inclusive world.

Empowering Educators

We aspire to equip educators with the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to create inclusive learning environments. Through professional development and collaborative initiatives, we aim to empower educators to champion diversity in their classrooms and foster a culture of understanding and acceptance. We also seek to promote best practices in transition planning in order to support educators as they develop high-quality transition plans with high expectations, so that teams can think higher – and think college – for young adults with intellectual disabilities.

Supporting Disability
Service Providers

Recognizing the crucial role of vocational rehabilitation counselors, speech pathologists, school counselors, occupational and speech therapists, and other providers,, our vision involves providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. By facilitating a community where best practices and innovative approaches are exchanged, we seek to enhance the quality of support services for students with intellectual disability, ensuring they have equal access to educational opportunities.

Championing Students
and Self-Advocates

Central to our vision is the empowerment of students and self-advocates. We envision a higher education landscape where every student, regardless of background or ability, has the resources and support needed to achieve their academic and personal goals. Through mentorship programs, advocacy initiatives, and inclusive campus policies, we aim to amplify the voices of students and empower young adults with intellectual disabilities to build self-determination skills and shape their educational journey.

Engaging Families

In our vision, families and caretakers are valued partners in the educational process. We strive to create a supportive network that engages families in the journey of inclusive higher education. By providing resources, guidance, and a platform for sharing experiences, we aim to strengthen the bond between families and educational institutions, fostering an environment where both collaboration and understanding thrive. We hope to be a space where parents and families can connect and be in community with each other.
